基本：オーロラ撮影方法（基本情報のみ）

必要なもの：一眼レフカメラ、広角レンズ、三脚、密閉用の袋

設定方法は、カメラにより異なるが全てマニュアルにするということが重要になる。

月が出ていないときで、露出は絞りを開放、露光時間は１５秒、フィルム感度（ISO）は８００でオーロラが写せる。
月が出ているときは、露光時間を５秒くらいにすると良い。

いずれにしても、写真を撮ってみてオーロラがどの程度明るく画面に写ったかを確認すれば、その後に秒数や感度を変え、自分好みのオーロラにすれば良い。

よくある問題として、焦点をオートフォーカスのままにしていて、シャッターが切れないという方が少なくない。これはレンズ側もマニュアルにする必要があるということを知らないだけ。オーロラの光というのは非常に弱く、オートフォーカスではカメラがどこに焦点を合わせたらいいかを判断できないということが理由であり、この状態ではシャーッターをきることができない。そのため、レンズもマニュアルフォーカス（MF）にする必要がある。

撮影後のカメラのケアも重要である。気温−３０度近くにもなる極北の冬のオーロラ撮影では、室内との温度差が６０度になることも稀ではない。外からそのまま室内にカメラを持って入ると、結露し故障する。これを防ぐために、密閉できる袋をカメラにかぶせてもって入るのである。カメラが室温になれば、袋から取り出しても結露することはない。

Honey-pot Locations

Just because honey-pot locations are well photographed, it doesn't necessarily follow that they are ever fully exploited. Good pictures of animals in action, for example, are usually different but rarely easy to achieve in one session. So, having a reliable location that you can return to repeatedly will allow you to work at getting particular images you have in mind. Of course, luck does play a big part, as wildlife can suddenly behave differently from one day to the next. The bottle-nose dolphins off Chanonry Point in the Moray Firth come to mind here. On some day, they can put on fantastic display of breaching behavior, and on other days they don't. Spending extra time in a location, and really getting to know it, is an excellent way of increasing your chance of getting lucky.
